Red and the Wolfe is now on Amazon Kindle!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09N17DW4R

It is the whole book in its entirety. on. Kindle. An Amazon company. I did the guided view this time. I'm praying like hell that ya'll love it, and I thank you for even looking at it.

Red Heads

Completely forgot about this and just refound it. I didn’t know how I was going to handle the photoshop paintings in Red and the Wolfe so I was trying to figure things out, as well as get some weird Red faces out of my system. I knew working for so long on one thing my handiness would change, so I did a lot of prep work to try to keep it to a minimum. Did around a thousand* photoshop paintings before I started the photoshop work on Red, and there are somewhere around a thousand little photoshop paintings in Red. I never copied elements between panels, each panel is an individual photoshop painting.

Red and the Wolfe Guided View

Almost done doing the guided view. It is killing my hand, and the application grinds to a halt after a few pages so I have to keep closing and reopening it. One thing I don’t like about guided view is how the aspect ratio and text size constantly change as you go panel to panel. That’s something I may plan for in the future.

Compressing Red and the Wolfe

Using every trick I could think of I finally got Red and the Wolfe small enough to please the kindle publishing thing. I put in 300 megs of Jpgs and it poops out a 600+ meg file... what the hell is it doing with all that space? It saves a redundant dump of all the files I put into it in the save folder... So I have no idea. Now I just have to tediously outline every panel for the guided view. I thought about just using the auto-detect because it is really funny at how terrible it is, mostly just making one tiny box per page, but I guess I wont. You’d think... that the THICK BLACK BOARDERS I used would help it out, but it just seems to confuse it.

Red and the Wolfe scales

Looking through my Red and the Wolfe folder found a scale comparison from preproduction. Also does anyone who reads comics on smart devices use the panel-by-panel view? I think I’d prefer page-by-page but I guess on a phone that wouldn’t work.

Zealot redux

I remembered not liking my illustrations for the last few panels of the zealot and went back to change them only to find out I already had! But I changed a few anyway because I still didn’t like them. And I’m a huge george lucas fan and love all the horrible changes he made to add terrible 90s CGI to a 70s movie to embetter it. Hopefully some day all original classic movies will be destroyed and remade with the power of tone deafness and CGI.

Kindle test

Trying to get 7 gigs of PDFs pared down 650 megs so I can publish Red as one book and not separate chapters. Kindle’s publishing software seems to double whatever size a thing I put in it for some reason, so I’m trying to shoot for 300.

Red and the Wolfe sale ending

Last days for the sale on Red and the Wolfe on ComiXology! It will end as March will end, as so many things must end, but who can afford a goodbye said in sweet friendship, or terrible anger, to what harmed us that we held so close?

Red and the Wolfe Process

An example of how I worked on Red and the Wolfe. I did the entire story through beginning to end as a rough script in ballpoint pen, then I rewrote and edited the whole thing beginning to end laying out how I wanted the panels in pencil, then I edited it again beginning to end doing the final painting in photoshop. It took five years working on it every day as the starbucks employees can tell you, and it is still on sale this month on ComiXology!

Red and the Wolfe Chapter 09 is released!

Chapter 09 is finally out! It took a long time, in fact, I've already submitted and received approval on the final chapter of the book, 10! It is one little book in a big sea of comics/graphic novels/manga on comixology. But of all the comics, graphic novels, and manga I've seen, I've never seen anything that quite looks like Red, so I feel pretty good about that.

Editing Chapter 10, the Zealot

Today was dedicated to amusing myself by working on two panels of the Zealot I never really liked. I think I'm going to work on the bottom one more to make him look a little like Mike Patton from the Mr. Bungle Pink Cigarette music video

Chapter 9 cover rework

Before submitting chapter 9 I wanted to rework the cover so there was no butt in it. I don't know if there is a no butts on covers policy at comixology, but I didn't want to risk it.

Done.

Done. Started March 22 2012 - 4 years 5 months 11 days later - September 2 2016 finished the last page. Working every day, hearing "but whats your real job?" (or later "got a real job yet?"), through hurting hands and arms, relationship ups and downs, stopping smoking, beans and rice everyday, keeping the same routine for four years even though I was only working for myself. In the beginning I brought in my own tea to starbucks because I couldn't afford coffee. Also lost a lot of weight because I could only afford bread, peanut butter, potatoes, and beans and rice. I started with a sheet of copy paper and a ball point pen and the thought "well no one is waiting for me to make this so I may as well start." Is it good? I don't know, but it's rich with meaning to me. Meaning I have been quick to regale many a listener with, if they cared to hear it.

Red the Cruel Lass with a Cutlass

Spoiler Alert: Red becomes a pirate, terror of the British on the Ivory Coast. They call her: Red, the Cruel Lass with a Cutlass. Heh heh heh.

Red's dream

In the end I have Red dream about my original more violent ending to the story. Except when I was working on it I decided water would come out when the woodsmen cuts the wolfe's throat, because you know, the bible. And I was just less interested in the gore, and have grown into a more nuanced desire in what I want to depict.
